Mr. Seddon was a longtime British intelligence officer who served around the world, including in Washington in the years after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Erik Prince, founder of private security contractor Blackwater and brother of former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, recruited a former British spy in 2016 to professionalize the undercover operatives at Project Veritas, the conservative sting video shop run by James O'Keefe, The New York Times reports, citing documents and people involved in the subsequent operations to discredit perceived "deep state" enemies of former President Donald Trump inside the U.S. government. They were going to bug it. The McMaster operation was aborted after he, unrelated to Project Veritas, resigned under pressure from Trump. DAVIES: Let me reintroduce you again. The next year, during a presidential debate with Hillary Clinton, Mr. Trump claimed without substantiation that videos released by Mr. OKeefe showed that Mrs. Clinton and President Barack Obama had paid people to incite violence at rallies for Mr. Trump. And I certainly don't think he thought he was going to get dragged into this. And then I started Googling them and doing some research on them. Mr. Seddons recruitment of Mr. He did not respond to follow-up phone messages or an email. And in the end, you know, O'Keefe would release them and, you know, make a big deal out of them. DAVIES: So an active player in the Trump world. Prince a former C.I.A. Prince, a contractor close to the Trump administration, contacted veteran spies for operations by Project Veritas, the conservative group known for conducting stings on news organizations and other groups. And this photo of James O'Keefe, who's, you know, the founder of Project Veritas, firing a weapon with a silencer, apparently, at Erik Prince's ranch - were they being trained in firearms there? During a meeting in a Las Vegas suburb last April of employees of Ms. Gores organization, the Wyoming Liberty Group, Mr. Seddon pitched a proposal to build a website where other so-called preppers could buy their own supplies and communicate with each other in the event of what he called a Black Swan moment a major terrorist attack, another pandemic or a civil war. And they thought McMaster had fired, you know, several people who the president had brought on and - or Mike Flynn, his former - his first national security adviser had brought on. Now, you mentioned Project Veritas. Mr. Seddon used other former Project Veritas employees to help with the Wyoming operation, including James Artherton, a British operative code-named kimchi who was involved in a Project Veritas plan targeting an editor for The New York Times in London in 2017. They've targeted CNN. New details reveal the ambitions of an operation intended to infiltrate opponents of Donald Trump, including moderate Republicans as well as progressives and Democrats. And they would secretly record them, you know, and create content and then eventually, you know, release a video, like they did in several instances. And I realized they were giving money to Democrats in Wyoming, Arizona and Colorado. One celebrated alum: Betsy DeVos's brother, Erik Prince, 49, the swashbuckling military contractor who has come to the serious attention of investigators looking into the Trump team's alleged. But "one of the most brazen operations of the campaign" was an attempt to take down H.R. And his son - he brought his son, who was a former army officer, on board to help. Mr. And we've written about that. But what is clear is if Beau and Sofia made these campaign contributions - right? But what we know is there was an arrangement made, and Erik Prince allowed Project Veritas to use his farm to train its operatives. And so I was able to piece that together. For example, the co-authors of the piece in dispute, Cole and Alex Emmons, say theyre New York and Washington, D.C., residents whove never been to Wyoming. According to its latest publicly available tax filing, Project Veritas received $8.6 million in contributions and grants in 2018. There was a massacre at a plaza in Iraq. He was dismayed, three former Project Veritas employees told the Times, with "O'Keefe's desire to produce quick media content rather than to run long-term infiltration operations." Of course, everybody's familiar with Watergate, right? Trump, of course, wanted to pull out. Other Project Veritas employees on the emails include Joe Halderman, an award-winning former television producer who in 2010 pleaded guilty to trying to extort $2 million from the comedian David Letterman. Not saying this is the case with Mr. O'Keefe, but it's sort of hard to fundraise that way if you're only doing one thing a year or if it's - you know, there are long periods of silence between each expose. Other outlets, however, have continued writing about the contractor. GOLDMAN: They were thwarting the president's agenda. And so these people were brought on to help manage these many, many, many, many operations. There was a billionaire in - well, a very - I don't know if he was a billionaire.
